Pain to Power: What do you do with pain?

Pain changes us. Change is pain’s purpose. Pain lets us know something needs to change or harm will happen if it hasn’t already. The process of transmuting pain to power is in awareness and choices. I have heard it said that our choices lead to our decisions and decisions lead to . In my experience, I have found this to be true

I have found transmuting pain to power to be an internal process that begins with the willingness and ability to feel and experience pain. We spend so much time avoiding pain that we harm ourselves and others in the process and deny, ignore, overlook, or misuse the power it holds. Feel free to add your personal coping mechanism if I’ve missed it. (Where are the emojis? A winky face belongs here ;))

What happens when you stop and acknowledge pain in the moment instead of engaging in whatever behavior enables you to avoid pain? What behaviors does pain invoke? Transmuting pain to power starts with this self examination and awareness. Next come the choices and decisions; the behaviors. Whether pain breaks or makes us stronger depends on what we do with the energy pain invokes in our physical body.

Challenge: spend some time this week acknowledging, feeling, and taking note of how you experience pain. Whether it is physical, psychological, or emotional, acknowledge and examine whatever part of pain you are avoiding. Don’t worry about changing and try not to judge. Just observe and maybe journal or jot down a few bullet points about what you have observed if you feel guided to do so and have the capacity.
